I have deep roots in a small town called Bobcaygeon. My Great Grandfather Alfred had bought his first piece of land in Canada on Pigeon Lake when he came over from Scotland. My grandparents still lived up until my Grandfather, Ross's death who just passed on Nov 1, 2019.
My parents had bought a cottage there on Bass Lake and I still have the scare on my toe from when I was 2 years old and jumped into the lake and cut it open on a rock. I have the fondest memories from the "Bob" as we called it. I know that town well and it's where we buried my Grandfather.
My Grandma aka LYNDA has played the piano at Pinecrest for decades and many of their friends had been at Pinecrest. They know my family well and it's been devastating to see the loss that has gone on in our small town. (my Grandparents Ross & Lynda below with me in the "Bob")
Last week I wanted to do something for our frontline workers. I put out a call on our social media for any frontline worker who has been wearing masks that have been rubbed raw and bruised faces that I will send them a free Hydra 7. I didn't expect the response that I got in my email box. I've sent over 100 + to nurses working on the frontlines in Canada.
Here are a few snippet from Nurses that emailed me:
~ I’d like to put forward my sister in law’s name. She is a dedicated nurse who looks after many patients and puts her family before herself just as many nurses do especially during this pandemic. - Vanessa
~ This is so very thoughtful of you and some light in the darkness for us. Not enough words to express my gratitude. I myself and my husband are RN’s that work in Lakeridge Health ER, my sister works at Markham Souffville ER and my sister in law works at Centenary Hospital. We are all scared, exhausted and overwhelmed during this time.Once again I really appreciate you going above and beyond. Many thanks, Wishing you and yours well and stay safe - Deborah
~ Hi Melanie, I came across your Instagram page and saw the amazing act of kindness you are implementing in regards to giving healthcare workers one of your products, to help with healing our faces from the same mask we are wearing for our 12 hour shifts! I am a nurse and I work at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.Thank you for your kindness and appreciation, it truly means the world to me!!! Sincerely, Allyson
~ My name is Connie and I’m a Registered nurse from Montreal, Canada. I just wanna say thank you and how us front liners appreciate your kindness and generosity. Here’s my story.Prior to COVID-19, I worked on a surgical oncology unit that I absolutely enjoyed and loved going to work... due to the new circumstances, my unit became a COVID-19 treating unit. Let me tell you, it’s extremely challenging and emotional and scary at time’s , but the feeling I get when I am helping others is beyond this world. I do miss my family and it does feel lonely at times being away from them since I have to quarantine... but I’m doing what I love most, which is helping people. COVID-19 has taught me to cherish life, because it’s so precious.
From the bottom of my heart thank you for supporting us healthcare workers. Here’s my picture :)
I want to THANK YOU all for your continued support. I know we're all going to get through this together.
