7 Makeup Mistakes That Instantly Age Your Face (And What To Do Instead)

One of the biggest things I’ve learned working as a self taught makeup artist is that it’s often not the makeup itself that’s the problem — it’s the technique.

The wrong formula or placement can instantly make skin look heavier, drier, or older.

The good news? Most of these mistakes are easy to fix.

Here are the ones I see the most.

Mistake #1

Too Much Foundation

Heavy base makeup emphasizes texture.

Instead apply foundation only where you need it and blend outward.

Mistake #2

Powder Everywhere

Powder should only go where you need it.

Too much powder makes skin look dry.

Mistake #3

Skipping Blush

Blush brings life back to the face.

Without it, makeup can look flat.

Mistake #4

Harsh Eyeliner

Heavy liner can make eyes look smaller.

A softer lash line keeps the eyes lifted.

Mistake #5

Over-Contouring

Contouring can quickly become muddy.

Soft bronzer placement works better.

Mistake #6

Too Much Concealer

More concealer actually highlights lines.

Use a small amount only where needed.

Mistake #7

Forgetting Glow

Healthy glow is what makes skin look youthful.

A soft highlighter makes all the difference.
